The Mighty River Tay
Salmon Fishing in Scotland has been enjoyed by anglers for hundreds of years. Salmon fishing can be done by anyone, it is a technique that does not require any great strength and is therefore an attractive sport to all. The largest rod caught Salmon on the River Tay was caught 7th October 1922 when Miss Georgina Ballentine hooked and landed a record breaking salmon weighting 64 lbs and measuring 54 inches long.
The River Tay is located in the East of Scotland and easily accessible by plane, road and rail, making it available to all.
Why not give it a try?
We can arrange salmon fishing trips on the river Tay In Perthshire from recommending your accommodation to arranging your personal Salmon fishing Guide when you are there.
Your Guided Salmon fishing day will consist of a Spey Casting lesson on the River Tay in the picturesque countryside of Scotland, with a Double Handed salmon fly rod. We will show you how to hook a salmon on the fly, how to effectively fish through a salmon pool along with other useful information on additional aspects of Salmon fishing in Scotland. If conditions are not ideal for traditional fly fishing then the tuition can extend to Spin fishing for Salmon.
We will happily arrange FREE pickup and dropoff from your accomodation in Dunkeld, Meikleour, Blairgowrie, Kinloch & Birnham. Transfers from other areas will be subject to location and additional costs based on a time and mileage basis.
We will supply all the Salmon Fishing equipment that you will need (rods, reels, lines, salmon flies, lures and waders). On the day you will be supplied with a lifejacket which you will be required to wear whenever you are near or in the water. All you will need to bring are layers of warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, thick warm socks, a cap or hat, sunglasses (not too dark) and suncream.
Your day will commence at 8.45-9.00am with a cup of tea or coffee at the beat hut. A short safety briefing and introduction to the equipment you will be using during the day. Then off to the river where you will be shown a demonstration on spey casting. Under the watchful eye of your personal guide (who will be shoulder to shoulder with you all day), your morning salmon fishing will commence. You will fish until lunch which is traditionally 1-2pm. We ask that you bring a packed lunch of your choice with you. During lunch you will meet other fishermen on the beat to chat about any fish caught and the one that got away! Then back to the river to fine tune techniques learnt during the morning session. Your fishing day ends at 5.00pm.
Although this is an indication of how your day will go, please remember this is your day and we will taylor it as much as possible to suit you. If you want to try Spinning as well as Spey Casting on the River Tay, your guide will carry the equipment for you to be able to do both. Spinning is not permitted on all Scottish rivers so we need to take this into consideration when planning which River to book for you.
90% of our days are carried out on the River Tay. We choose beats for both their productivity and also their ease of wading. You will be asked when booking your age range and physical ability to book beats to suit you best.
To give you an indication of price, our prices start from £300 for a single person/rod early in the Season. For 2nd-4th persons/rods on the same day prices are from £200 per person/rod. Please note that prices will change during peak times and fishing permit prices. For larger groups please enquire for prices.
We operate a 100% catch and release policy.
